ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF football team began its final week of spring practice on Monday, and with Saturday's Spring Game presented by DEX Imaging on the horizon, the squad was as spirited as ever.
"I like what we've done," head coach Josh Heupel said of his team's work this spring. "In particular the defense, the last two or three days out on the grass, has really gotten a lot more comfortable. I like how we're continuing to push."
Heupel praised the defense for their work this spring, specifically the defensive line. With Jamiyus Pittman, Tony Guerad and Seyvon Lowry gone after graduation, a number of Knights have had to step up, and Heupel has been impressed.
"There's so much growth that guys have to make," Heupel said about the first year of a new staff. "The defensive line unit has come a long way in what we're doing. Schematically, it's different for them, and I think they've adjusted and grown a lot lately."
With just one practice remaining before hitting the field for the team's final scrimmage on Saturday, Heupel is excited to see what a lot of the young guys can do in front of the fans.
"I'd like to see a lot of the young guys who haven't had the opportunity to play under the lights to come out, play sound fundamentally, and get themselves in the right position," he said. "On both sides of the ball, you want to see guys make plays."

The Knights will hold its final practice of the spring Wednesday morning, before gearing up for Saturday's Spring Game presented by DEX Imaging. All practices are closed to the public.

The UCF Football Spring Game presented by DEX Imaging is set for April 21 at 6 p.m. inside Spectrum Stadium. General admission tickets are free.
