Series Winning Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Behind the bat of Aubrey Johnson, the UCF softball team secured the series over Memphis with a 6-2 win on Sunday.

Johnson finished the day 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Knights as they improve to 29-16 overall and 8-4 in the American Athletic Conference.

Memphis drops to 30-14 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Alea White picked up her 22nd win of the season and her 40th win in her young career giving up eight hits and two runs on 102 pitches.

Memphis' starter, Bayleigh Wisher gave up three runs on 18 pitches in the first inning and last just one-third of the inning before Mariah Nichols was called in. The Knights' bats were hot from the start as Denali Schappacher singled to left to get on base for Johnson who blasted a home run over the left center field fence to go up 2-0 quickly.

Kyra Klarkowski followed Johnson's home run with a single to left field then Kaitlyn Jensen drew a walk to put two runners on for UCF. Erin Emanuel hit a deep ball to right field, which was mishandled allowing two more runs to cross the plate for the Knights as they led 4-0.

Memphis tacked on two runs in the third on four singles to make it a 4-2 game, but that would be all from the Tiger defense.

UCF put together two more hits and a run in the fourth and again in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2 for the eventual win.

The win puts the Knights in second place in The American, while Memphis drops to third.

On the weekend, Johnson went 5-for-10 with a home run, six RBI, and eleven total bases for a .345 batting average thus far.

Klarkowski and Schappacher each went 4-for-8 in the series including five runs scored for the freshman.
