ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three Wednesday, as the Knights took down ETSU 6-1 at the USTA National Campus.
"We have a little bit of a bulls-eye on our back now, so we have to deal with expectations a little better," said UCF head coach Bryan Koniecko. "I'm glad we got the win and that hopefully we can just keep learning going forward."
Plenty went right for UCF (9-2, 2-0), as the Black and Gold made quick work of the visiting Bucs (4-9, 0-1).
Doubles play began with Maria Martinez and Ksenia Kuznetsova cruising to a 6-1 win at No. 1 over Alory Pereira and Ioanna Markesini.
Not soon after, Natalia Serrano and Monica Matias followed suit with a 6-1 win of their own over Alejandra Morales and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga at No. 3.
UCF kept the momentum going in singles action, winning five of six matches.
Senior captain Emilia Granstrom gave the Knights their second point of the night at No. 6, taking down Yi Chi Ma 6-1, 6-2.
Martinez earned her second win of the night at No. 1 when she beat Pereira 6-2, 6-2 to put UCF on the brink of victory.
The Black and Gold clinched the win over the Bucs when Rebeka Stolmar earned a 6-4, 6-0 straight sets victory over Pascual-Larrinaga at No. 3.
American Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year, Matias beat Morales 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 4, and Serrano defeated Melissa Esguerra 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to round out the Knights wins.
Markesini won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 over Kuznetsova for the Buc's lone win.
UP NEXT
The Knights will have a double-header Saturday, March 10 at the USTA National Campus. They will take on Penn State at 12 p.m. and then have a conference showdown with Memphis at 6 p.m.
