INDIANAPOLIS (UCFKnights.com) -- The final day of the NFL Scouting Combine saw the Knights' Mike Hughes turn in many solid performances.
Hughes finished No. 2 amongst all defensive backs on the bench press, putting out 20 repetitions at 225 pounds. He was fourth in his position group in both the 3-cone drill (6.7 seconds) and the broad jump (127 inches). He was eighth in the 20-yard shuttle (4.13 seconds) and tied for 10th in the vertical jump (35.5 inches).
"I kind of use my quickness a lot and teams don't know that I'm strong," Hughes said. "I'm a strong corner and I think I showed that in the bench press. I use my quickness a lot to get up on guys and I can run with anybody."
While Hughes has shown a ton of speed on tape and believes he can run with anyone, he was unable to show that on Monday. He turned in times of 4.54 and 4.53 in the 40-yard dash, which was disappointing to Hughes. Prior to running the 40, he mentioned that he takes pride in the technique of running the 40 and wanted to turn in a great time. Hughes has confirmed that he will attempt once again to show his speed at UCF's Pro Day on March 29.
