Knights Earn Conference Win Against ECU

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's tennis team completed the weekend sweep Sunday at the USTA National Campus, as the Knights took down American Athletic Conference foe ECU 4-0.

Coming off a thrilling 4-2 win against Michigan Saturday on College Matchday, UCF (8-2, 2-0) made quick work of the Pirates (6-4, 1-1) to remain undefeated in conference play.

"Two and O is all you can ask for in this weekend," said UCF head coach Bryan Koniecko. "Today we knew it was going to be tough because we had a lot of excitement Saturday and Sunday we knew we'd have to get them going a little bit and they did a good job."

Natalia Serrano and Monica Matias opened doubles action with a fast-paced 6-1 win over Alisa Diercksen and Annija Veinsteina at No. 3.

After Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz earned a 6-2 win over Maria Martinez and Ksenia Kuznetsova at No. 1 for ECU, Rebeka Stolmar and and Silvia Bordes clinched the all-important doubles point over Hsia Ho Chiao and Nastja Rettich with a 6-2 win at No. 2.

The Black and Gold kept their foot on the gas as singles play began, with all six first sets won by UCF.

Matias earned the second point of the day for the Knights, easily beating Veinsteina in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Senior captain Emilia Granstrom made the start at No. 6 and also earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ho Chiao to put the Knights one point away from the win.

With the Knights leading in the remaining four matches, it was only a matter of time before the clincher. Stolmar sealed the deal for UCF after a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 to complete the sweep.
