HOUSTON, Texas (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF softball team secured the series in Houston with wins on Thursday and Friday but took their first American Athletic Conference loss of the season on Saturday against Houston, 4-0.
Denali Schappacher and Cassady Brewer recorded two hits each for the Knights as UCF moves to 24-13 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Houston moves to 23-11 overall and 3-3 in The American.
The 5-1 start for the Knights is the second best start in conference play since joining The American in 2014.
Houston jumped on the board first with two runs in the first inning off two sacrifice flies to go up 2-0 on the Knights.
UCF threatened in the top of the third with a pair of singles, but their two-out rally came up short and the score remained 2-0.
In the top of fifth, the Knights again strung together two hits with two outs, but it wasn't enough as their opportunity closed with an infield pop fly.
Houston put another pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle with runners in scoring position to score the runner from third, while another Cougar crossed the plate on a wild pitch to take a 4-0 lead and eventual win.
UCF collected seven hits on the day and committed their only error of the weekend in the loss.
Alea White took the loss in the circle as she moves to 18-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play, as she continues to sit in the top 10 nationally for wins. On the weekend, White held a 1.84 earned run average with two complete games and a shutout for the Knights.
