ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Following an illustrious career at UCF, A.J. Davis is set to participate in a pair of prestigious basketball events over the next three weeks. Davis will take part in the inaugural 3X3U National Championship in San Antonio and the 2018 Portsmouth Invitational in Virginia.
Davis, who starred for the Knights from 2015 to 2018, will make his way to San Antonio for the first ever 3X3U National Championship, which will pit 32 four-man teams consisting of players from every Division I college basketball conference against each other in a three day, 3-on-3 tournament.
The tournament runs from March 30 through April 1 at St. Mary's University in San Antonio. The teams, comprised of seniors who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, will compete for a $100,000 prize pool live on Twitter and ESPN2.
Davis will join three other players from the American Athletic Conference, to be announced soon.
"I approach basketball the same every time," Davis said. "I'm just going to play how I play. I feel like I play the right way, so no matter where I go, I'll play well. I've always been told, don't try to showcase things that you can't do, so I'm just going to do things that I know I can do. I'll focus on playing basketball the right way and keep it simple."
The Atlanta native will then make his way to Portsmouth, Va., to compete in the Portsmouth Invitational from April 11-14. For 65 years the PIT has invited 64 of the best college basketball seniors from across the nation to participate in the event in front of representatives from every NBA team.
"My goal is to go out there and play the best that I can, play as hard as I can, and whatever happens after that, I think everything will fall in line for me," Davis said. "My goal is to get to the next step and keep on going on this journey of becoming a pro. Hopefully I can get invited to the combine, then I can get drafted after that. Whatever comes next for me, we'll see."
Davis is currently in Las Vegas, working out in preparation for the upcoming events.
