#21 UCF Sweeps Brown

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 21 UCF women's tennis team continues to excel on the court during this record breaking season, and Brown couldn't do much to slow them down.

The Knights (14-2, 3-0) made quick work of the Bears (7-9, 0-0) Tuesday at the USTA National Campus, sweeping the Ivy League opponent 7-0 for their eighth straight victory.

"I think this is one of our best matches of the year so far," said UCF head coach Bryan Koniecko. "I think just in terms of focus and getting the job done in doubles and singles."

UCF came into the match fresh off its highest ranking in school history at 21. The Black and Gold have been in the top 25 in the last four Oracle/ITA Division I team rankings.

"I'm so happy for this group," added Koniecko. "They deserve the credit that they're getting and I know this is our high as of right now, but it's not our ceiling as a team."

The Knights opened up the scoring versus Brown with two quick doubles victories at No. 1 and No. 2.

Ksenia Kuznetsova and Maria Martinez defeated Courtney Kowalsky and Maddie Stearns, 6-0 and Silvia Bordes and Rebeka Stolmar cruised past Devon Jack and Juliana Simon, 6-1 to make it 1-0 UCF.

Singles action saw the Knights dominate the opening sets on all six courts to set the tempo for what would be UCF's second 7-0 sweep of the season.

Martinez made it 2-0 UCF with her win at No. 1, a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Stearns. Next came her doubles playing partner, Kuznetsova, who breezed past, Alyza Benotto 6-1, 6-1.

The clincher for the Knights came at No. 4, where Monica Matias fought off a late charge from Simon to win 6-1, 6-4.

The remaining three matches were all straight set victories for UCF.

No. 122 ranked singles player, Stolmar, took down Taylor Cosme, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Natalia Serrano defeated Katie Ta 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 and Bordes wrapped up the match with a 6-2. 7-5 win over Kowalsky at No. 5.
