ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – For the second straight season, the UCF baseball team will team up with the SkinnerStrong Foundation to host Joe Skinner Knight on April 27 for the 6:30 p.m. game against Wichita State.
The Knights will honor Joe Skinner, who signed to play for UCF in 2015, but would never get the chance to don the Black and Gold. He was diagnosed with hypodiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December of 2015. Skinner passed away on April 30, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, awaiting an experimental treatment.
Joe Skinner Knight will be the culmination of a month-long fundraising drive by the Knights that kicked off last Friday. Last year, UCF raised $33,000 for pediatric cancer research. The Black and Gold has its sights set on a new goal of $40,000 for this season.
UCF players, coaches, and staff will be collecting donations for the pediatric cancer department of Florida Hospital. All of the money raised will be applied to research grants; fans can click here to participate.
The Black and Gold will head out to Memphis this week for a three-game tilt against the Tigers, starting on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
