ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Knights Without Borders,an annual service-learning trip through the UCF Athletics Department that has been a tradition since 2013, is planning its next outing..
At the beginning of May, current and former student-athletes, along with administrators, will travel to Puerto Rico to provide a variety of services to those affected by Hurricane Maria. This trip provides a unique opportunity for student-athletes to gain a global perspective and get outside their comfort zone all while working alongside members of the community.
The trip to Puerto Rico will consist of a variety of projects to help rebuild and revive the east side of the island. The Knights will be working with:
- A local Boys & Girls Club, improving their community center by creating a healthy and safe space for youth to grow and learn
- An environmental project planting mangrove forests as a part of taking a proactive step in natural disaster prevention
Over the last five years, 103 student-athletes have contributed their time to six different international and domestic communities in need.
From Order of Pegasus winners to Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members to many student-athletes who have gone on to pursue post-graduate degrees, each sport has been represented over the years. It is no surprise that the Knights who have journeyed on a Knights Without Borders trip have been successful in life beyond athletics.
