Knights Extend Winning Streak

UCF Clemson Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team continues to roll through opponents, as the Knights extended their winning streak to six with a 4-3 win over Clemson Wednesday at the USTA National Campus
.
"Today was great, Clemson's a great program, we knew that coming into it," said head coach Bryan Koniecko. "It was tough conditions for us today, 23-24 mph winds at some points. At some point, you just have to throw tennis out the window and it's all about guts there."

UCF (12-2, 4-0) had not played since its double header sweep of Penn State and Memphis March 10 and needed some time to knock the rust off.

Clemson (8-9, 1-5) opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.

The Knights would then turn it on heading into singles play, taking four of six matches from the Tigers.

The wins started at No. 4, when Monica Matias cruised past Sydney Riley, 6-1, 6-1 to even the match.

Silvia Bordes quickly followed with a straight sets win at No. 5. The Spaniard defeated Laura Marti, 6-2, 6-3 to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

Clemson would bounce back with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 3-2 themselves.

Oracle/ITA Division I No. 21 ranked singles player, Marie Leduc beat Ksenia Kuznetsova, 6-4, 6-4 and Fernanda Navarro took down Maria Martinez, 6-2, 7-5 to put the Black and Gold on their heels.

UCF was resilient in its final two matches, starting at No. 3, when No. 122 Rebeka Stolmar defeated Tate Schroeder, 6-4, 6-4 to leave it all up to No. 6.

The clincher came when Natalia Serrano fought off Ally Miller-Krasilnikov in an exciting three-set showdown. The junior would eventually prevail with 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win.

UP NEXT
The Knights have a quick turnaround, as they welcome Yale to the USTA National Campus for a 5 p.m. showdown tomorrow, March 22.
