UCF Set to Take On Michigan in College Matchday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After playing four of six matches on the road to start the year, the UCF men's tennis team next welcome a pair of ranked opponents to the USTA National Campus. The Knights (4-2, 0-0) will take on No. 8 Michigan at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in College Matchday, before challenging No. 32 Baylor on Monday at 6 p.m
.
The College Matchday Series features fourteen of the country's top NCAA Division I teams who will play at the National Campus' 1,200-seat collegiate stadium throughout the season live on the Tennis Channel. Admission is free and will feature kids' activities, live music, specialty food and drinks, games and giveaways on-site.


UCF is looking to extend its four-match win streak against a Michigan (9-2, 0-0) team that also is riding a six-match unbeaten streak.

The Black and Gold cruised to a 5-2 decision over Stetson at the USTA National Campus on Feb. 21 in their last match.

UCF went 3-0 in doubles action versus the Hatters, including No. 23 Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa moving to 5-0 on the year playing together. Mikhail Sokolovskiy, Alan Rubio, Danny Kerznerman and Enrique Paya all notched singles victories.

Michigan is coming off a 4-0 victory against Duke on March 1. The Wolverines field a roster of four seniors, two juniors, two sophomores, and four freshman and boast several ranked players nationally.

Senior Alex Knight is currently No. 5 in the ORACLE/ITA Division I singles rankings. Runhao Hua comes in at No. 33, and Myles Schalet at No. 122. Knight and Hua are also ranked No. 8 in doubles nationally.

No. 32 Baylor (9-3, 0-0) comes to Orlando on a three-match winning streak, including a pair of 7-0 wins against Abilene Christian in a double-header Feb. 24.

The Bears will face #41 Memphis in a Friday afternoon matchup in Waco before coming to the USTA National Campus Monday to challenge UCF.

Baylor fields a younger team, with three juniors, two sophomores, and four freshman. Junior Johannes Schretter is currently No. 39 nationally in singles play and sophomore Bjoern Petersen comes in at No. 74. Schretter and Will Little are No. 5 in the doubles rankings. Petersen and Jimmy Bendeck come in at No. 55.
