ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Postseason play continues for the UCF women's basketball team, as the Knights are headed to Tuscaloosa for a second round WNIT matchup against Alabama.
UCF (22-10) will take on the Crimson Tide (18-13) at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday in Coleman Coliseum.
The Knights advanced to the second round of the WNIT for the second consecutive season after a 65-60 overtime victory against Jacksonville on March 14. Zakiya Saunders turned in her third straight 20-point performance, scoring a game-high 25 points, and Lawriell Wilson added a season-high 15 points to lift the Knights its second-ever postseason victory.
The winner between UCF and Alabama will face the advancing team in the Georgia Tech-UAB matchup. More information, including date, location and game time, will be determined following Sunday's contest.
UCF LEADERS
- Zakiya Saunders has scored in double figures in 24 of her 27 appearances this season, and has nine games of 20 points or more. She leads the Knights at 15.9 points per game, has a team-high 74 steals and earned American Athletic Conference Second Team honors.
- Korneila Wright adds 10.7 points per game and joined the single season top 10 with 137 assists on the campaign. She is just behind Saunders with 72 steals on the season.
- Nyala Shuler has seven double-digit rebounding performances this season and leads the Knights on the glass with 7.1 boards per game. She joined the career top 10 in the regular season finale and has 613 rebounds as a Knight.
- Masseny Kaba leads UCF on the offensive glass, collecting 90 of her 197 rebounds on the offensive end. She is second on the team with an average of 6.2 boards per contest and earned All-Freshman Team honors in the league.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON TIDE
- Alabama brings an 18-13 record into the second round of WNIT action. The Crimson Tide defeated Southern, 69-56, in the first round.
- UCF and Alabama have met five times on the hardwood, with UA coming away victorious each time.
- Hannah Cook and Ashley Williams lead the Tide offensively, averaging 11.8 and 11.4 points per game, respectively.
- Williams is the top rebounder for Alabama, grabbing 7.3 per contest, and Cook has a team-high 58 steals on the season.
- Jordan Lewis averages 4.1 assists per game for the Crimson Tide.
