CLEARWATER, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Cassady Brewer hit a grand slam to lead the Knights past the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 7-1, Sunday afternoon to cap off the Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.

UCF finished the tournament with a 4-1 record to improve to 17-9 overall heading into the eight-game home stand.

Brewer finished the day going 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Denali Schappacher and Kyra Klarkowski came away with two hits each.

Cierra Word recorded her first win of the season in the circle replacing Kamryn Toney. Word threw four innings giving up only two hits and no runs striking out two.


The Bobcats struck first as they garnered a 1-0 lead off a bases-loaded walk in the third.

The Knights went to work in the fourth after Megan Greenwell bunted for a single then stole second and advanced to third after Courtney Rotton laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her over. Kaitlyn Jensen drew a walk and Kaylee Misiti came in to pinch run, while Aubrey Johnson ripped a shot to plate Greenwell and knot the game at 1-1.

Klarkowski delivered a double to score Johnson and the Knights quickly had the lead, 2-1.

The bats were still hot for UCF when Schappacher led the fifth inning off with a single. The Knights drew three straight walks to make it 3-1 and Brewer followed by crushing a homer to left field to make it 7-1.

The Knights finished the battle collecting seven runs on seven hits.

The Knights enter an eight-game home stand beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 14 taking on University of Texas - San Antonio at 10:30 a.m. followed by a duel with Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. The game will feature live stats and will be streamed via Knights.tv.
