ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After a successful home stand to open the season, the UCF women's tennis team will hit the road to begin their first of four matches in the state of Texas. The Knights (4-1) will face American Athletic Conference foe SMU on Friday at 6 p.m. and then Baylor on Sunday at 5 p.m.
UCF (4-1) will be looking to extend their winning streak to three after completing a doubleheader sweep of Troy and North Florida this past Sunday. The Black and Gold will battle an SMU (3-2) team that has yet to leave Dallas this season and is coming off a home loss to Iowa last Sunday.
The Black and Gold have been dominant in doubles play this season, boasting an 11-2 overall record this season, including a 3-0 mark by seniors Monica Matias and Natalia Serrano.
A pair of freshman have impressed in singles play so far. Rebeka Stolmar (4-0), and Silvia Bordes (3-1) have been major factors in the Knights strong start.
SMU fields a younger roster, with only one senior on the team this season. The Mustangs hold victories over Tyler Junior College, Abilene Christian, and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on the season.
The Bears (2-2) are coming off back-to-back losses against Vanderbilt and Kentucky. They will also take on Tulsa Saturday at home before the Knights make their way to Waco Sunday. Baylor holds victories over Western Michigan and New Mexico this season.
As with SMU, Baylor has a younger team that includes five freshman, three sophomores, with only one senior. Freshman Livia Kraus was ranked No. 101 in singles for the Bears in the latest ORACLE/ITA rankings.
