LINCOLN, Neb. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team turned in a strong opening day at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
For the second consecutive meet, Gabby Durant improved her personal best in the weight throw. The Plant City native's fourth throw of the day landed at 19.55m - a new PR, but it was her sixth and final throw of the evening that set an even better mark. Durant took second with a throw of 19.99m/65-7.
Jhane' Carter joined Durant in the top eight, using a personal best throw of 18.66m/61-2.75 to finish eighth in the standings.
Alissa Williams used a season-best mark of 7.45 to advance to Saturday's 60-meter dash finals. Not only did she have a heat-winning time, she posted the third-fastest mark of the day.
Joining Williams in the finals will be Shaniya Williams, whose 7.55 time was the seventh-fastest mark of the day. All five of UCF's sprinters posted season-best times in the event.
Aria Tate posted a season-best time of 8.84 to finish 12th in the 60-meter hurdles. Natosha Jordan joined her in the top 15, as she posted a time of 9.10.
UCF concludes action at the Frank Sevigne Invitational on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
