JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF Knights capped of the Green and Gold Classic and picked up it's 600th program win with a 5-3 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins Sunday afternoon. Senior Courtney Rotton delivered her first home run of the season bringing in two runs and Aubrey Johnson collected a pair of hits and two RBI.
Alea White got the start and recorded her sixth win throwing seven innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks.
With the win, the Knights improve to 9-6 on the season heading into the San Diego Classic.
The Knights bats quickly came alive in the first inning as Denali Schappacher was hit by a pitch for the first baserunner of the afternoon. Megan Greenwell stepped into the box and instantly smacked a single through the left side, and with a Dolphin miscue, both runners were able to move into scoring position.
Johnson then drilled a single up the middle scoring Schappacher and Greenwell bringing up Kaitlyn Jensen who blasted a double to left field plating Johnson.
The Dolphins narrowed the Knights lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the first scoring on a wild pitch followed by a double up the middle.
Jacksonville evened up the score, 3-3, in the fifth inning after slicing a single to right and scoring a run.
UCF secured the victory in the top of the sixth after Jensen drew a walk to bring Rotton to the plate who blasted a shot over the left field fence to make it a 5-3 win.
Since the program's inception in 2002, the UCF Knights softball team and Head Coach Renee Luers-Gillispie have now won 600 games. The win over Jacksonville also gave Luers-Gillispie her 850th National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) victory since she began coaching in 1991.
