FORT WORTH, Texas (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped on the road on Friday night. The No. 28 Knights fell 4-1 at No. 46 TCU.
The Black and Gold (6-2) dropped the doubles point for the first time this season. Aleska Cveticanin and Aleksandra Zenovka defeated Emilia Granstrom and Natalia Serrano, 6-2, before Silvia Brodes and Rebeka Stolmar were edged by Stevie Kennedy and Marie Norris, 6-3.
When the doubles point was clinched, rookie duo Maria Martinez and Ksenia Kuznetsova had a 5-3 lead over Donika Bashota and Eliza Tedford.
The Horned Frogs (7-5) extended their lead to three with singles wins at No. 4 and No.3. Bashota topped Bordes, 6-4, 6-1, and Norris downed Stolmar 6-3, 6-2.
Kuznestova pulled a point back for the Knights at No. 1 with a gritty straight-set victory over the No. 82 ranked Zenovka, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). TCU clinched the match at No. 3 when the 123rd ranked Cveticanin beat Martinez over three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Though unfinished, the Knights were battling at No. 5 and 6. Natalia Serrano was headed to a third set after two tiebreaks, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), while Granstrom was all over Kennedy in the first set, 6-2.
The Knights will play their final road trip until April 4 on Sunday at Texas A&M. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
