ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team heads to Memphis for a midweek matchup against the Tigers.
 
The teams will tip off at 8 p.m. ET in the Roane Fieldhouse and the game will air on the American Digital Network.
 
UCF( 17-9, 9-4 The American) will face Memphis (8-18, 3-10 The American) for the second time this month. The Knights collected a 61-41 victory over the Tigers in Orlando on Feb. 3.
 
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE
The UCF defense has held opponents to an average of 54.7 points per contest, which ranks 13th in the country. The scoring defense is also the best is program history, and marks the first time since the 2004-05 campaign with back-to-back seasons of holding opponents under 60 points per game.
 
Zakiya Saunders and Korneila Wright rank among the top 75 in the country in steals per game. Saunders leads the team with 2.86 steals per contest, while Wright averages 2.50 steals per game.
 
AROUND THE AMERICAN
With three games remaining in the regular season, the Knights are tied with Houston for third in the league with a 9-3 record.
 
The Knights will travel to Houston (9-4) on Feb. 24. UCF, who was selected to finish fourth in The American preseason poll, has tied its best win total in The American at nine victories. The top four teams in the standings will receive a first round bye at The American Championship, which will begin on March 3.
 
Zakiya Saunders leads the Knights and ranks 10th in the league with an average of 16.2 points per game. Nyala Shuler, Masseny Kaba and Saunders are among the top 15 in the conference with averages of 6.7, 6.6 and 6.5 rebounds per game, respectively. Saunders is tied for first in the league in steals (3.1), while Korneila Wright ranks fourth in steals (2.5) and fifth in assists (4.2) per game.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • Memphis enters Wednesday's contest with an 8-18 overall record, and a 3-10 mark in league action.
  • The Tigers lead the all-time series, 16-11, and hold an 8-1 edge in The American.
  • A pair of Tigers average double figures, led by Brea Elmore's 14.9 points per game.
  • Cheyenne Creighton is just shy of averaging a double-double, with 14. 5 points per contest and 8.2 rebounds per game. She also has a team-high 13 blocks.
  • Elmore leads Memphis with 87 assists and 35 steals this season.
