ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team opens a two-game road stretch at No. 1 UConn on Tuesday.
The 7 p.m. contest will take place in Gampel Pavilion and will air on SNY/ESPN3.
UCF (11-5, 3-0 The American) hits the road having won seven of its last eight contests. The Knights are off to a 3-0 start for the first time in the American Athletic Conference.
UCF LEADERS
- A trio of Knights average double figures, led by Aliyah Gregory and Zakiya Saunders at 13.3 points per game each.
- Korneila Wright averages 10.5 points per game and leads the team with 63 assists and 41 steals.
- With four double-digit rebounding games this season, Nyala Shuler leads UCF with 7.6 rebounds per contest. She and Masseny Kaba are tied with 47 offensive rebounds this season.
NATIONAL KNIGHTS
- UCF ranks in the top 50 in four statistical categories, landing in the top 20 in a pair.
- The Knights are 10th in scoring defense (54.7) and 19th in steals (177).
- UCF is 31st in steals per game (11.1) and 47th in three-point field goal defense (28.0).
AROUND THE AMERICAN
- UCF is in a three-way tie for first in the league after winning its first three conference contests of the season.
- Masseny Kaba was tabbed as The American Freshman of the Week after averaging 14.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest to help UCF to a pair of victories over SMU and Wichita State.
- The Dorchester, Mass., native has scored in double figures in five of her last six games, and is the top-ranked freshman in scoring at 14.0 points per contest.
- Nyala Shuler posted a career-best five blocks at SMU, and is tied for third in the league category.
- Zakiya Saunders averages 5.7 assists per game in conference action, tied for the most among league players. Korneila Wright averages 2.7 steals per game, which is tied for third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- Top-ranked UConn enters the contest with a 13-0 overall record and a 3-0 mark in The American.
- Tuesday's game marks the seventh all-time meeting. UConn holds a 6-0 lead in the series.
- Six Huskies average double figures, led by Katie Lou Samuelson's 18.8 points per contest.
- Azura Stevens averages 8.8 rebounds per contest, while Napheesa Collier grabs an average of 8.2 boards per game.
- Stevens leads UConn with 29 blocks on the season, and Gabby Williams has a team-high 34 steals.
