ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – After the UCF men's basketball team defeated Memphis and Temple this week to improve its American Athletic Conference record to 3-1, the league honored Knights freshman Ceasar DeJesus as its Rookie of the Week for his performance in the victories.

DeJesus earned the honor for the third time this season, which leads all rookies in The American.  The first-year Knight was also named Rookie of the Week on Nov. 20 and Jan. 2, tying the UCF record of three rookie honors, set in 2014-15 by B.J. Taylor and Adonys Henriquez.

In this past week's 65-56 win over Memphis, DeJesus scored 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, knocking down 5-of-6 free throws, and dishing out two assists. It was his fifth game in double figures this season.

On Sunday, he helped lead the Knights to a dominating defensive performance, defeating visiting Temple 60-39.  DeJesus scored in double figures for the third straight game, scoring 13 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe, and picking up three steals.

The Jersey City, N.J., native is now averaging 9.6 points per game on the season, which is second among all freshman in The American. He has connected on 10 three-pointers and is shooting 74 percent from the free throw line.

DeJesus and the Knights will now get set to hit the road.  UCF plays at UConn Wednesday, Jan. 10. The Knights and the Huskies are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. from Storrs, Conn., on CBS Sports Network.
