Bouncing the Bearcats

CINCINNATI, Ohio (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's basketball team used a dominant defensive effort to top Cincinnati, 50-38, on Tuesday evening at Saint Ursula Academy.

UCF (15-7, 7-2 The American) held Cincinnati (13-9, 5-4 The American) to six points in the first two quarters and took a 25-12 lead into the locker rooms. The Knights outscored the Bearcats in three of the four quarters to earn their fourth consecutive win.

Masseny Kaba and Zakiya Saunders led UCF with 14 points each. Kaba added a game-high 18 rebounds. Saunders and Nyala Shuler collected four and three steals, respectively.

The UCF defense was dominant against Bearcats.

  • The Knights limited Cincinnati to a season-low 38 points.
  • UCF is now 5-0 in league play when holding its opponent under 50.
  • The Black and Gold outrebounded Cincinnati, 45-32, and forced the Bearcats into 19 turnovers.


Masseny Kaba posted her first collegiate double-double.

  • The freshman forward posted her first collegiate double-double.
  • The Dorchester, Mass., native collected a career-best 18 rebounds and added 14 points.
  • Kaba tied her career-high with three blocks in 39 minutes of action.


UCF closed out January with a 6-2 record.

  • The Knights closed out the first month of 2018 on a four-game win streak.
  • Collecting six of their seven wins in The American in January, UCF has now raised its second-most win total in the league.
