ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team held its first practice in preparation for the 2018 season on Friday afternoon. The Knights will have three weeks until their season opener against Virginia on Feb. 16.

After taking batting practice and defensive drills, the Black and Gold played a five-inning intrasquad scrimmage. Joe Sheridan and JJ Montgomery started on the mound, showcasing two pieces of the deep pitching staff for the Knights this season.

Last year, the Knights went 40-22 in head coach Greg Lovelady's first season, a record for a first-year coach in the program. UCF won 15 games in American Athletic Conference play to claim the regular season championship. The Black and Gold reached the NCAA Tallahassee Regional for the first time since 2012.

UCF will open the 2018 season at John Euliano Park with a three-game tournament against Virginia, Rice and Samford on Feb. 16-18.
