ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team looks to keep its momentum rolling into the new year as the Knights head to Dallas to face SMU on Wednesday.
The game is slated for an 8 p.m. ET tip in Moody Coliseum.
UCF (9-5, 1-0 The American) heads into 2018 having won five of its last six contests. The Knights opened league action with a 76-46 win over Temple on Dec. 30.
UCF LEADERS
- A trio of Knights average double figures, led by Aliyah Gregory and Zakiya Saunders at 14.2 points per game and 14.1 points per contest, respectively.
- Korneila Wright averages 10.5 points per game and leads the team with 57 assists and 37 steals.
- With four double-digit rebounding games this season, Nyala Shuler leads UCF with 7.5 rebounds per contest. She has a team-leading 41 offensive rebounds this season.
AROUND THE AMERICAN
- UCF scored a season-high 76 points in the win over Temple, and ranks third in the league in scoring offense. On the flip side, the Knights are tied with USF for the top scoring defense in conference play, holding the Owls to 46 points.
- Aliyah Gregory was named to The American honor roll after averaging 17.0 points per game to help the Knights go 2-0 last week.
- The Knights were predicted to finish fourth in the preseason poll. Gregory was recognized by the league coaches as a preseason first team selection in October.
- Gregory ranks sixth in the league in scoring at 19 points per game, while Zakiya Saunders is tied for eighth with 17 points per contest.
- Kayla Thigpen used a career-best eight rebounds to sit in a tie for sixth among league rebounders.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- SMU enters the contest with a 6-8 overall record. The Mustangs dropped an 85-75 decision to Houston in their league opener.
- The Mustangs lead the all-time series 13-7, including an 8-1 mark in Dallas. The squads split their meetings last season, with each team collecting a win on its home court.
- McKenzie Adams leads the Mustangs on offense, averaging 18.6 points per game, and has made a team-leading 20 three-pointers this season.
- Kiara Perry is the second-leading scorer for SMU at 11.4 points per contest, and leads the Mustangs in rebounding at 7.7. She also has a team-high 31 steals this season.
