ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's basketball team has returned home after dominating at ECU on New Year's Eve. On Tuesday, freshman Ceasar DeJesus was honored by the American Athletic Conference, earning Rookie of the Week accolades from the league.
It marks the second Rookie of the Week honor from The American for DeJesus, who also earned the nod early in the season.
DeJesus scored 15 points with two assists and two steals, while shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in UCF's 59-39 win over the Pirates. He also scored nine points in a tough road loss to defending conference champion SMU earlier in the week.
The Jersey City, N.J., native is averaging 9.0 points on the season, which is second among all freshman in The American. He has also racked up 26 assists, 13 steals and eight 3-pointers on the season.
UCF senior A.J. Davis was also honored by the league on Tuesday, earning a spot on The American's Weekly Honor Roll.
Davis had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win at ECU, after leading the Knights with 12 points at SMU. It marks the second time this season Davis has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll. He leads the league with 9.1 rebounds per game.
DeJesus, Davis and the Knights will play their first home game of conference play Wednesday night. UCF hosts Memphis at 7 p.m. at CFE Arena.
