Kudos for Kaba

Opens in a new window The American Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After leading the Knights to a pair of American Athletic Conference victories last week, UCF rookie Masseny Kaba was named Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday.

Kaba averaged 14.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest while helping the Knights to victories against SMU and Wichita State. The Dorchester, Mass., native led UCF in scoring in both contests and has scored in double digits in five of the last six contests.

UCF's leading scoring through its first three American Athletic Conference games, Kaba is the top-scoring freshman in the league at 14.0 points per game.

She set career highs in free throws made (5), assists (2) and minutes played (39) against Wichita State and tied her career-best in steals (3) at SMU. She helped the Knights to their first-ever 3-0 start in The American.

Monday marked the second freshman honor for Kaba, as she also earned the distinction on Nov. 27. She is the sixth Knight to earn the accolade, but the first to be tabbed more than once in her rookie campaign.

The Knights (11-5, 3-0 The American) open a two-game road stretch at No. 1 UConn on Tuesday. The 7 p.m. game in Gampel Pavilion will air on SNY/ESPN3.
