ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF men's golf head coach Bryce Wallor announced the addition of Richard Donegan as an assistant coach on Monday.
"We feel extremely fortunate to hire someone with such a well-rounded background as a successful student-athlete," Wallor said. "Richard brings with him a wealth of successful playing experience throughout his time as a junior, college, amateur and young professional golfer.
"During his playing career Richard has created a positive experience of winning golf tournaments which include the 2011 Florida High School State Championship, the 2013 Rice Intercollegiate, 2013 Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate and the 2015 Florida State Public Links Championship. Over his four year college career, Richard has had the opportunity to see several different coaching styles, and most importantly, he has been mentored by a GCAA Hall of Fame Coach in Stuart 'Buddy' Alexander. We are very excited to see Richard instill these winning practices into our players moving forward."
Donegan became a professional golfer in February 2017 after playing three years at Florida. He participated in the PGA Latin American and PGA Canadian Qualifying Schools.
"Being only a few years removed from collegiate golf myself, I feel as though it will be easy for me to relate to the players on a personal level," Donegan said. "I just went through the exact same thing they're going through now whether that be playing, studying, or socially while at the University of Florida or at FAU."
At Florida, Donegan was named the 2015 Florida Amateur Public Links Champion and was a member of the 2016 Florida Cup Team Member (South Florida). He graduated in 2016 with a degree in food and resource economics.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity Bryce has given me being only 23," Donegan said. "His track record and success is evident at every program he's coached for. He's one of the best coaches in collegiate golf and knows exactly what to do to develop players and help them reach their full potential. I can't wait to learn and grow as a coach here at UCF."
The Okeechobee, Fla., native started his collegiate career at Florida Atlantic and captured titles at the 2013 Rice Intercollegiate and Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate. He earned the Sun Belt Player of the Month in Feb. 2013 and participated in the 2013 United State Public Links Championship.
Donegan holds the Florida Amateur Public Links record by carding a career-low 62. He tallied a college-best 66 on multiple occasions during his four-year career.
The 2011 Florida High School State Champion attended Okeechobee High School (Class of 2012) and was also tabbed as the Florida Dairy Farmers Player of the Year.
