ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – On Dec. 1, ASSA celebrated a major accomplishment for 25 UCF student-athletes at the Inaugural Fall Graduation Celebration.
"The academic culture in our athletics department is second to none, thanks to a shared belief that the most important goals for our student-athletes at UCF should be graduation and preparation for life after college athletics," UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Daniel J. White said. "I'm consistently impressed with the dedication our student-athletes have to success in the classroom and in competition."
As a class, these students remained above a 3.0 GPA throughout their entire academic career and were instrumental in helping achieve the highest overall GPA of a 3.27 in the spring of 2017.
"Our student-athletes are as dedicated in the classroom as they are in practice and competition," said Dr. Eric A. Wood, Deputy Athletic Director for Competitive Excellence. "It's gratifying to see their smiles as they cross the stage and receive their diplomas, knowing they are being rewarded for their effort."
Within this group of graduates are 17 AAC All-Academic honorees, two Order of Pegasus nominees and a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team recipients. Emily Jenkinson also became the first ever recipient of the 1st Annual Alvin Wayne Scholarship for an undergraduate thesis.
