ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The bats came alive in the Game 2 of the 2017 Black and Gold Series for UCF Baseball. Team Black scored four runs in the top of the 10th to win 9-7 in extra innings.

Starting pitching headlined the opening innings. JJ Montgomery went four innings and fanned a pair. Chris Williams tossed a four-hit gem over seven innings. The redshirt junior struck out five to keep the contest close.

After the starters' exits, the two sides used the long ball to put points on the board. Rylan Thomas tied the game at 4-4 with a solo homer in the eighth, before Anthony George ripped a shot over the left-center field fence in the top of the ninth to give Black a one-run lead. Down to Gold's last out in the bottom of the ninth, Josh Moser laced a pitch over the wall in right to send the game into extras.

Brandon Hernandez's RBI single in the top of the 10th kick-started a four-run inning. Gold managed to cut the deficit to two in the bottom half, but Black closed the door with a double play and a game-ending strikeout from Eric Hepple.

The Knights will close out the Black and Gold Series on Saturday at 4 p.m. Thad Ward will start for Gold and Cre Finfrock will go for Black, getting his first nod since missing the 2017 season due to injury.
