ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Outside hitter Kia Bright was named a unanimous First Team All-American Athletic Conference selection by the league's coaches. She was one of only five players to be unanimously picked. It was the third career postseason nod in The American.
"What a great way to top off an incredible career at UCF," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "Kia was a consummate six-rotation player, who did everything her team needed her to do to make it to the postseason. She will look back some day and recognize all that she overcame to be one of the top players in the league. Her story is inspiring to any person who knows or reads about it."
In her redshirt-senior campaign, Bright ranked among the leaders in The American. The Starke, Fla., native finished the regular season third in kills (3.88), fifth in points (4.37) and 18th in hitting percentage (.257). Bright set career highs this year with 469 kills, 3.88 kills per set, 1,278 attempts and 22 block solos. She posted 21 double-doubles this year.
Bright will go down as one of the most prolific all-around players in UCF history. Earlier this season, she became just the fifth Knight to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills in a career. When the 2017 season concludes, Bright will finish in the Top 10 in attempts, attempts per set, kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, digs, digs per set and block solos.
The redshirt senior and the Knights start their postseason run in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. against UNC Greensboro in Athens, Ga.
