ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head coach Scott Frost has a lot on his mind these days. In addition to a huge American Athletic Conference road game at SMU this weekend, Frost and his wife Ashley are expecting their first child at any moment.
As Frost made his usual media appearances Thursday – post-practice and on the Open Mike radio show on FM 96.9 The Game – both topics were prevalent.
As for the preparation for Saturday's contest vs. the Mustangs, Frost said his team was dialed in all week.
"We had a tremendous week of practice," he said after Thursday's workout inside Nicholson Fieldhouse. "We're talking to the players about making sure to stay focused on what's in front of them. They responded very well this week. It's one of our best weeks of practice. So, I feel like the guys are prepared and we've just got to go and perform."
With baby Frost's due date having passed, Frost once again talked about his focus on his family that's about to grow by one.
"It could happen any day, so we're excited," Frost said. "Assuming she's not in labor tomorrow, I'm going to get on the plane and go down there with the guys. Some of the boosters of the program are great to me, like they always have been, and they have access for me for a way to get home if need be. Hope it doesn't happen until after the game."
Frost followed up by saying nobody in the program is indispensable, including himself. Defensive coordinator Erik Chinander would take over the head coaching responsibilities if Frost had to leave or missed the game. Offensive coordinator Troy Walters would take over the offensive play-calling responsibilities in Frost's absence.

On Open Mike, with Mike Bianchi and Brandon Kravitz, Bianchi asked Frost about the goal of finishing undefeated and his general philosophy on goal-setting.
"If that's anybody's goal, they better not be talking about it," Frost said. "We can't focus on anything except what's in front of us. That's what got us here. The guys need to be smart enough to realize what got us to this point and keep using the same formula.
"I've been on teams that have (set preseason goals)," Frost continued. "I've been on teams that talk about win-loss or championships. I've even been on teams that talk about statistics, like we want to average plus-1.5 in turnover margin for the year. We kind of eliminated all that by making the message simple … you focus on what's in front of you. That's what Rise and Conquer means. You get up and conquer what's in front of you. You move on to the next thing and you conquer that. You lay your head on the pillow and you get up and Rise and Conquer the next day. I think that makes it simpler and keeps us focused on what's important and that's the task at hand."
