Decamps Qualifies for Futures Main Draw

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UCFKnights.com) – Two weeks after a strong showing at the ITA Southeast Regionals, a quartet of UCF men's tennis players competed at the USA F35 Futures Player's Choice Open this week. Gabriel Decamps, Mikhail Sokolovskiy, Korey Lovett and Danny Kerznerman opened the week at in the singles qualifying draw.

Decamps, seeded 10th, cruised in four qualifying matches to reach the main draw. The Brazilian international downed Beauregard Treyz in the opening round 6-2, 6-2. Decamps then defeated Malik Bhatnagar 6-2, 6-1. The rookie later beat Norwegian international Eirik Groener 6-1, 7-5 to set up a matchup with Paraguayan Joaquin Vallejo, which the UCF freshman won easily 6-2, 6-2.

On Wednesday in the opening round of the main draw, Decamps advanced against Dejon Bevins with a 6-2, 6-4 win. The freshman will face Matias Zukas from Argentina on Friday.   

Sokolovskiy finished one match shy of joining Decamps in the main draw. The Russian international opened his week with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Mario Jakovljevic from Croatia. Sokolovskiy handled Tam Tring 6-3, 6-2, before outlasting Nicaise Muamba 6-4, 6-4 in the third round. The freshman's tournament came to a close at the hands of Jacob Dunbar in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat.

Kerznerman toppled Joseph Corse in the opening round 6-0, 6-2. The native of Brooklyn held on in a first-set tiebreak to win against Charles Sullivan 7-6(5), 6-4. Kerznerman bowed out in the third round against the No. 2 seed Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, falling 6-2, 6-1.

Lovett rallied in his opening round match against Columbian Alejandro Valencia, dominating the final two sets to win 6-7(9), 6-2, 6-2. Lovett battled Brian Shi in the second round, but dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
