FSU Invite Day 1 Draws

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Monica Matias and Natalia Serrano reached the semifinals of their respective singles draws on the opening day of the FSU All Conference Showdown.

On Friday, Matias downed Maryann Rompf of Wisconsin with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the opening round of the Gold draw. She will go up against Moka Ito of Western Kentucky.

Serrano reached the semis of the Seminole draw by dispatching Anne Sophie Courteau of West Virginia 6-3, 6-3. The Spanish international will battle Carol Kerman of Ferman on Saturday.

Silvia Bordes will meet Sofia Duran from West Virginia in the Garnet consolation semifinals after falling to Troy's Sanae Ohta 6-1, 7-6 (2). Emilia Granstrom fell in her Speicher draw opener to Middle Tennessee States' Marta Peris, which set up a semifinal duel with Anna Walter from Furman.

In doubles play, Matias and Serrano won their Iowa's Elsie Van Heuvelen and Dori Huckleby in the Gold draw 8-3, but dropped the semifinal contest to USF's Nicole Drenga and Vanja Klaric, 8-5. The veteran pairing will meet Alory Pereira and Ioanna Markesini from East Tennessee State in the third-place match.

Bordes and Granstrom defeated the Furman duo of Hannah Ferrett and Carol Kerman in the Garnet draw 8-4. The UCF duo were outdueled in the semis by Ohta and Nancy Karaky 8-7. Bordes and Granstrom will go up against MTSU's pairing of Kim Kermet and Luisa Zirilli on Saturday.
