Terrific Trio

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – A weekend road sweep led a trio of Knights to American Athletic Conference honors on Monday.

Morgan Ferrara earned her second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week. Vera Varis collected her first Goalkeeper of the Week honor, and Kathellen Sousa earned her first Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

Ferrara led the Knights with four goals in the two matches on the weekend extend UCF's unbeaten streak to 10 matches. She started both matches and added an assist in the win over Houston. Five of her 11 goals on the season are game winners, which ranks fourth nationally.

Varis earned her first Goalkeeper of the Week honor after posting a pair of shutouts against Houston and SMU. The Vantaa, Finland native has yet to allow a goal in league play, and has only conceded one goal during UCF's 10-match unbeaten streak. She has compiled a 0.254 goals against average that ranks second in the country.

Sousa played all 180 minutes in both of UCF's 4-0 victories over the weekend. As a starter on the back line, the Sao Vincente, Brazil native has played a key role in UCF's six shutouts on the season. The defender has disrupted nearly every opponents' offense before they can attempt a shot.

Freshman Stefanie Sanders earned a spot on The American honor roll after playing a season-high 35 minutes in UCF's 4-0 win at Houston. On Sunday, her second goal of the season put the Knights up 2-0 in an eventual 4-0 win at SMU.

Monday's accolades mark the third consecutive week with at least two Knights being recognized by the league. UCF has collected four Offensive Player of the Weeks and Rookie of the Weeks to go along with this week's Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Week.

UCF returns to action on Sunday, heading to Baton Rouge for a 2 p.m. ET matchup at LSU. The teams were originally scheduled to play on Sept. 8, but the match was postponed prior to Hurricane Irma making landfall in Florida.
