ESTERO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- The UCF men's golf team battled through tough conditions Sunday and held first place after the first round of the Homewood Hilton Airport Invitational, hosted by FGCU at Old Corkscrew Golf Club. A wet golf course and high winds pushed the scores higher than usual, but the Knights persevered.
Manuel Elvira led the way for UCF. At 5-over par, Elvira is two strokes off the lead and tied for second.
Donnie Trosper is tied for fifth at +6. Jake Grula is playing as an individual, but is also tied for fifth place at 6-over.
Juuso Kahlos is just one stroke behind Trosper and Grula and is tied for ninth. Meanwhile, Kyler Tate and Bobby Bair are 10-over and tied for 21st.
As a team, UCF is 28-over par and holds a 7-stroke advantage over Butler and FGCU, which are tied for second-place in the 13-team tournament.
Monday's round will be the final round of the tournament, which was shorteneed from 54 to 36 holes.
