ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF cross country team heads to Philadelphia for the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday.
The Belmont Plateau will host 243 runners on Saturday morning. The American Digital Network will stream the 2017 Cross Country Championships live beginning at 10 a.m. with the men's 8k race. The women will follow, with the 6k race slated for a 10:50 a.m. start. The awards ceremony will follow at approximately 11:40 a.m.
The race will also serve as the War on I-4 rivalry meet between the Knights and USF. The Bulls collected the first six points of the 2017 edition after a 3-2 double overtime victory in men's soccer. The women's soccer programs will meet on Friday night with six more points on the line before cross country's turn on Saturday.
UCF will look to seniors Rosie Chamberlain and Kalleigh Forrester, along with newcomer Beth Williams to improve on last year's fifth place finish at the championships. Chamberlain, Forrester and Williams have been among the top three finishers for the Knights all season.
Seniors Marissa Codispodi and Laura Korsmit, juniors Emily Jenkinson and Crystal Tejeda, sophomores Brittany Gill, Shiree Hinds and Victoria Jung and freshmen Kayla McGowan and Daesha Rogers have all turned in personal bests this season and look to add to the Knights' score in Philadelphia.
