ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – In less than two years, the UCF offense has gone from one of the lowest-ranked units in the country to leading the nation in scoring. Meanwhile, the constant under head coach Scott Frost the last two seasons has been the outstanding play of the Knights' defense.
During Frost's weekly visit with the media following Thursday morning's practice, he was asked about the offense's improvement, along with the defense continuing to play at a high level. Frost was quick to first credit the defense.
Defensive coordinator "Erik (Chinander) and his staff are the ones who carried us up to this point and they continue to," Frost said. "It's one of the best defenses in our league and in the country. Those guys are what carried us through games this year. It's good that the offense has caught up and is performing at a high level, too."
But Frost is certainly happy with and impressed by what is taking place when the Knights have the ball.
"I have to give a ton of credit to my offensive staff," the head coach said. Offensive coordinator "Troy Walters and the rest of the guys, they came in and were basically learning this scheme last year, just like the players. (Offensive line coach) Greg Austin is the only one (who) had been in this scheme. This year, with all those guys being familiar with scheme, there's a lot of good ideas coming from every guy on our offensive staff."

Frost also made his usual Thursday morning appearance on the Open Mike radio show on 96.9 The Game with Mike Bianchi and Brandon Kravitz Thursday morning before practice. With Frost and his wife Ashley expecting their first child any time, Frost discussed what happens when she goes into labor.
"We'll see when he's coming," Frost said. "I'm on ready. I'm on call already to get over to the hospital. Hopefully it happens before we take off for SMU (on Nov. 3)."
Frost is committed to being at the hospital, being with his wife when his son comes into the world, even if it means flying home from a road game in the middle of the contest.
"I'm going to coach a lot of football games in my life," Frost said. "I only get one chance to see my first child born."
Some of the biggest news on campus at UCF this week was the announcement of President John C. Hitt's retirement scheduled for this coming summer. Frost had very kind words for the man who brought him to UCF.
"Not only did he give me an opportunity and believe in me, but he's one of the classiest guys I've ever been around," Frost said. "His honesty, his support and leadership have meant a lot to everybody in this football building and in Athletics."
