ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) -- Kyler Tate and the UCF men's golf team both climbed the leaderboard Monday at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. The Knights are hosting the annual event that brings some of the best in college golf together at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
Tate opened the day in a tie for 36th place. But he fired a second-round 68 (-4), the third-best round of the day, to move up 31 spots into a tie for fifth. He was on fire early, recording four birdies in his first seven holes, opening on the back nine at Isleworth. On the front nine, to close out his round, Tate was even. For the tournament, he is 3-under. He's two strokes out of second place and eight strokes off the pace of Illinois' Dylan Meyer, who leads the way headed into Tuesday's third and final round.
Tate's solid performance lifted UCF up the team standings as well. The Knights were tied for 16th after Sunday's first round. UCF is now in 10th place.
