ATHENS, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia.
Three Knights competed on Sunday in the consolation draws for the singles and doubles tournaments. Freshmen Maria Martinez and Silvia Bordes reached the semifinals of the singles draw with quarterfinal wins this morning.
Martinez defeated Georgia State's Elizabet Danailova, 6-2, 6-4, to set up a semifinal matchup with Mariana Gould of Georgia. The rookie closed her second collegiate tournament with UCF in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat.
Bordes cruised in her quarterfinals contest with Florida State's Gabrielle Goldin, 6-3, 6-0. Later, the Spanish international took Morgan Coppoc of Georgia to three sets before bowing out of the tournament in a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 defeat.
Bordes and playing partner Emilia Granstrom dropped their quarterfinal doubles consolation match with USF's Juliana Cardoso and Jessica Cortes, 8-6.
The Knights will be back on the court for the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic at the start of November.
