ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 7 UCF women's soccer team continues its home stretch on Sunday, hosting Temple at 1 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
UCF (11-1-1, 6-0-1 The American) enters the contest at the top of the league standings with 19 points. The Knights are followed by USF (18 points), Cincinnati (14 points) and Memphis (14 points).
Last Time Out
- The Knights extended their unbeaten streak to 12 matches and won their seventh game in a row on Thursday.
- UCF used a first half goal from Morgan Ferrara and a second half marker from Bridget Callahan to top UConn, 2-0.
- The Black and Gold posted their eighth shutout of the season and held UConn to just seven shots in the game.
- The Knights snapped UConn's four-game win streak over UCF with the 2-0 win on Thursday.
Squad Goals
- With two goals against UConn, the Knights have now scored 25 goals in American Athletic Conference play. UCF set a new program-best in the league with the tally. The previous best was 23 during the 2013 campaign.
- UCF has found its offensive spark over the last six games, outscoring opponents 29-1. In each of its victories this season, the Knights have scored at least two goals.
- Senior Morgan Ferrara leads the team with 12 goals this season, including 10 over the last six games.
- Senior Kayla Adamek (9) and freshman Dina Orschmann (5) join Ferrara with multi-goal games this season.
Dominant Defense
- After allowing two goals in the season opener at then-No. 4 South Carolina, the UCF defense has shut down opponents.
- The Knights have not allowed more than one goal in a match during the 12-game unbeaten stretch.
- Vera Varis has yet to concede a goal in league play and has compiled a 0.20 goal-against average on the season.
Scouting the Owls
- UCF and Temple meet for the seventh time overall. The Knights lead the all-time series, 6-0.
- The Owls enter the match with a 6-8-2 overall record, and a 2-4-1 mark in The American. Temple enters the match seventh in the league with seven points.
- Gabriella McKeown has a team-leading five goals for the Owls, while Morgan Basileo has compiled a 1.17 goals against average for Temple.
UCF closes out the regular season on Oct. 27. The Knights host USF, who is receiving votes in the national polls, in the War on I4 matchup at the UCF Soccer Complex. UCF will also recognize its senior class for Senior Knight.
