ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A pair of UCF football players were named American Athletic Conference Players of the Week on Monday after leading the Knights to a 40-13 victory over Memphis on Saturday. Adrian Killins, Jr. earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Matthew Wright picked up Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
Killins led the now No. 25 Knights to victory with 179 yards of total offense. The speedy sophomore led the team with a career high 115 yards rushing, including a school record 96-yard touchdown run, while adding 64 yards receiving and another touchdown.
It marks the second time Killins has received a weekly honor from The American. Last season he was named Special Teams Player of the Week once.
Wright aided in the Knights victory this weekend, going two-for-two on field goals and adding four extra points against the Tigers. With his pair of makes, Wright is now 4-for-5 on the season and currently sits atop the UCF record books with a 77.3 field goal percentage. It's the first weekly honor for Wright.
Additionally, Mike Hughes was one of just three players in the nation named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll this week. The Paul Hornung Award is given each year to the most versatile player in major college football.
Hughes excelled in the win over Memphis, recording his second interception in as many games, making eight tackles and breaking up two passes. His 2.3 passes defended per game lead the nation. Hughes also returned two punts for 12 yards and one kickoff for 17 yards.
