TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team wrapped up action at the Bedford Cup on Sunday, completing the opening week of the fall season.
After winning the doubles title yesterday, Monica Matias and Natalia Serrano were back in action along with Emilia Granstrom.
Matias dropped her championship matchup in the Venus Williams Flight against Ana Madcur from Miami 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1) to take second-place honors.
Granstrom earned a third-place finish with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Brooke Milner of Stetson in the Madison Keys Flight.
Serrano finished her opening weekend of the fall in the semifinals of the Garbine Muguruza Flight Playoffs. Serrano could not keep pace with Miami's Estella Perez-Somarriba, falling 6-1, 6-1.
Over in Hilton Head, S.C., freshman Maria Martinez opened her second straight week in an ITF event at the ITF $15,000 Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Spanish international reached the second round of the singles qualifying draw by dispatching Emma Allen 6-0, 6-1. Martinez will face Taylor Love tomorrow.
