ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A brand-new, shiny national Top 25 ranking – no matter how much Coach Scott Frost wants to avoid it – has led to a great deal of media coverage for the Knights' head man this week.
Last week, prior to the Memphis win and the national ranking, Frost was featured in a Wired segment on ESPN College GameDay. This week, he has done interviews with ESPN's Scott Van Pelt for the midnight SportsCenter. He's also appeared on the Jim Rome Show and on Paul Finebaum's radio/ESPN2 television show.
While he admittedly doesn't always enjoy all the media attention, Frost understands it's good for the program and therefore willingly gives up his time to talk with the media. As he met with the media after practice Thursday morning, he explained his thoughts on the exposure.
"They can be fun, but more than anything they're just a distraction," Frost said. "But it's hard to turn them down. To get that kind of attention for UCF is awesome for this place, this community and this university. Hopefully, I can be the one to do those things and I hope none of our players are watching any of it."
Frost also discussed how his team has been able to balance the fun of college football with maintaining their edge and focus.
"I think our way of doing things is fun and winning is fun," Frost said. "So, the guys are enjoying themselves. I think we're having a blast playing this year. This group is doing a great job of knowing when to have fun and be dancing … and when to flip a switch and be dialed in. That's a mark of good leadership from some of our players … but I like the mindset we have right now."
