ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF freshman Madison Murnin was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after helping the No. 24 Knights to a sweep at the Sun Devil Desert Classic over the weekend.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native's first collegiate goal was the game-winner against Arizona on Sept. 1. After the Knights fell behind 1-0 in the 66th minute, the squad rallied to find the equalizer in the 78th minute. With 84:52 showing on the clock, fellow freshman Dina Orschmann found Murnin just inside the 18. Murnin's shot sailed by the Arizona goalkeeper in the right side of the net to put the Knights up 2-1.
She logged 79 minutes to help the Knights go undefeated on the weekend. UCF won their fourth straight contest with the sweep of the Sun Devil Desert Classic.
Murnin becomes the second Knight this season to garner Rookie of the Week accolades, and the third to be recognized by the league office. Dina Orschmann (Rookie) and Christine Creighton (Offensive Player) earned the weekly honors on Aug. 28.
Orschmann found a spot on the honor roll for this week's awards after leading the Knights with three points in two games at the Sun Devil Desert Classic.
UCF returns to action on Friday, hosting LSU at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
