Fall Ball Opens

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After going through three weeks of individual workouts, the Knights completed their first team practice of the fall on Monday morning at the UCF Softball Complex. UCF also released its fall slate that features nine games, including five Friday evening home matchups over the next six weeks.
 
After a challenging weight session started the morning, UCF took the field for a two-hour session that focused on hitting in the cages, working on rundowns and implementing defensive plays.
 
"It was really fun to see what everyone brings to the table and see how each of us pushes through a tough practice," junior catcher Cassady Brewer said. "It was great to see how mentally tough we are."
 
Eight newcomers, including six freshmen, went through their first practice as a team.
 
"The reality set in today that this is a college softball practice," Brewer said on the newcomers. "This was one of our harder days. It was definitely a wake-up call for them in some ways."
 
After hosting Seminole State at 5 p.m. Friday, the Knights play in a two-day tournament at Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, Fla. UCF is set to face Warner University, Broward State College, Bethune-Cookman and College of Central Florida at the event.
 
The Knights will host Friday evening matchups against Seminole State College (Sept. 29, Oct. 27), Southwest Florida College (Oct. 13), Eastern Florida State College (Oct. 20) and Rollins College (Nov. 3)
