Dynamic Duo

Opens in a new window The American Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After helping No. 14 UCF to an unbeaten opening weekend of American Athletic Conference action, senior Kayla Adamek and freshman Dina Orschmann collected a pair of league honors on Monday. Adamek was named The American Offensive Player of the Week, while Orschmann earned Rookie of the Week laurels.

Adamek and Orschmann accounted for all four of the UCF (5-1-1, 1-0-1 The American) goals in a shutout victory at ECU on Sunday.

The pair became the second duo to tally a pair of goals each in American Athletic Conference play. The last time UCF accomplished the feat came in a 4-1 victory over UConn in 2013 when Alex Piercy and Lena Petermann each finished with two goals.

Adamek opened the scoring for the Knights, putting her second goal of the season in the back of the net in the 14th minute. Her third goal of the season came as she beat every ECU defender for the breakaway to make it 2-0 in UCF's favor. The Ottawa, Canada native's two goals in the match tied her career-best.

Orschmann tallied a pair of goals in UCF's 4-0 win over ECU. Her two markers were a career-best in a game. Also recording an assist on a goal by Kayla Adamek, Orschmann finished with five points in the win. The Berlin native leads the team in goals (4) and points (10).

The duo also combined for six of UCF's seven shots on goal in a 0-0 double overtime draw at Cincinnati on Sept. 21.

Monday's honor marks the second Rookie of the Week accolade for Orschmann this season, and the third overall for UCF. Adamek, who became the second Knight to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, collected the accolade for the second time in her career.

UCF returns to action on Thursday, hosting Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. The first 75 students will receive a free soccer scarf.
