SOUTH KENT, Conn. (UCFKnights.com) -- Paced by individual medalist Juuso Kahlos and runner-up Kyler Tate, the UCF men's golf team rolled to a runaway victory at the Hartford Hawks Invitational Tuesday. UCF held the lead after each of the first two rounds and continued increasing its lead in Tuesday's third and final round. The Knights topped 19 other squads in the 20-team event.
As a team, the Knights carded a three-round score of 836 to finish the tournament at 28-under par. The next closest competition was Seton Hall, which took second place 25 strokes back at -3.
Kahlos was tied for second heading into the final round. After scoring a red-hot 66 in the first round, he came back at even par 72 in the second round. A third-round total of 69 pushed him to 9-under for the tournament, which gave him medalist honors by two strokes in front of teammate Kyler Tate. In the lead after two rounds, Tate turned in a 1-over 73 over the final 18 holes to come in at 7-under with runner-up honors.
Donnie Trosper climbed into a tie for fourth place by the end of the tournament. He carded a three-round total of 211 (-5). Bobby Bai slipped to a tie for 12th Tuesday, after entering the final round tied for second. His three-round total of 214 left him at 2-under for the event.
Tommy Cao was playing as an individual and did not count toward the team totals. He finished tied for 20th at even par. Manuel Elvira rounded out the UCF lineup, finishing 7-over par and in a tie for 49th.
UCF is back in action again Oct. 1-3 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Valentine, Neb., hosted by South Dakota State University.
