ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Outside hitter Kia Bright was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for leading the UCF volleyball team to a pair of sweeps over Virginia last weekend.

"During the week, we felt like we were seeing 'Vintage Kia' at practice, and it was great to see it carryover onto the floor during each match," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "She's determined to be a great player for this team and an even better leader for the younger players."

Bright led the way offensively for the Knights in the VolleyKnights Invitational. The native of Starke, Fla., posted back-to-back matches of 11 kills and two errors, finishing the weekend with a .340 hitting percentage and 3.67 kills per set.

Bright added a service ace on Saturday and notched a double-double in each contest with 16 and 13 digs on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to average 4.83 per set.

The redshirt senior became the 12th player in program history to join the 1,000-kills club earlier this season. Bright also needs 22 digs to be the fifth Knight to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.

Bright is averaging 3.58 kills per set with a .247 clip at the net. The player of the week laurel is the fourth of her career.

UCF opens AAC action this weekend against ECU on Friday and Cincinnati on Sunday.
