ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team opened fall practice on Friday, officially starting the second season of the Bryan Koniecko era.

"It's nice for sure to get back out on the court," Koniecko said. "The rules made it a little more difficult on us by forcing us to take an extra 14 days off. We're happy the girls have put in the work over the summer. We're excited to get a full day of work and to start competing next week."

The Knights went 13-9 in Koniecko's first season at UCF. Monica Matias was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team, going 14-4 in singles play with an 11-3 mark at number two. Matias also dominated in doubles action with a 14-3 record.

Matias joins Natalia Serrano and Emilia Granstrom as the upperclassmen returners on the 2017-18 squad. The signing class of freshmen Silvia Bordes, Ksenia Keznetsova and Maria Martinez was ranked 13th by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

Last week, the Knights announced their fall schedule, which will start on Oct. 25 at the ITF $15,000 Charleston, S.C.
