Helping Houston

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - In response to Houston men's basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson's tweet calling for help with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the UCF Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its first meeting Aug. 28 with the urge to respond.

The following is a blog written by varsity rower and the SAAC Social Media Sub-Committee chair, Paula Parks.

The #UCFamily came together last week to gather donations for the people in Huston affected by Hurricane Harvey. It was great to see all the teams and staff work as one to gather as many shirts, pants, jackets and shoes as possible. Every SAAC representative challenged their teams to collect as many clothes as they could in a week and, needless to say, the UCF Knights did not disappoint!

We were able to gather 585 shirts, 48 pants, 53 jackets and 111 pairs of shoes.

Some SAAC members and staff got together to sort all the donations and, after separating everything by types of clothes and sizes, we were so amazed and humbled by the amount of help and love the UCF Knights put out to help our brothers and sisters in Houston during this time of need.

It is during these hard times where we see how close the Knights Family is and how strong of a community we have.  We are so thankful for everyone who donated and so proud of seeing this project take its course with the help of all UCF Athletics. We will keep our friends in Houston in our thoughts and please remember that we stand together in these hard times.

GO KNIGHTS!
